Bicycles from Heaven is the name of an ambitious project the Aberdeen Kiwanis club is starting. It is intended to become a district wide activity. Jim Noggles is the organizer and pusher, and Ray Sowers has volunteered to be the representative for our club. Basically this project recycles old/abandoned bicycles using expertise at the Stafford Creek facility and makes them available to kids that might not be able to afford one otherwise. The first bicycle will be given away at the Governor's dinner May 16, 2003 in Aberdeen.

Keep your eyes open for spent printer/copier cartridges. To date we have received $116 from this program. Steve has collection boxes out in many places in the community. We can help by collecting home cartridges and those from churches etc.

The scholarship committee reports that we have 19 applications for our three $500 scholarships. They will be meeting May 16, 2003 to interview the applicants. Committee members are Chris, Clarence and Steve.

We have three activities coming up in the next few months. Festival of People, Elma Rest stop, and the Homecoming Spaghetti Feed. Call Roger or email him at roger@lauckhart.com to reserve your spot. If you don't contact him, he'll have to contact you.

We are looking for officers for the Kiwanis fiscal year Oct. 2002 to Oct. 2003. In particular we have nominations open for President and vice president. Probably Roger will continue as Sec./Treas unless someone else demands the job. None of the officer's jobs requires a lot of time or effort.
